Four hides. One hand-finished spine.
Oxblood, forest, midnight, and aged walnut. Foil-stamped titles, a stitched edge, and a ribbon that remembers where you stopped. No two volumes need look alike.

Dearvell is an offline-first journal with the weight of a real book: tactile paper, damp ink, a 2700K lamp. Your pages live on your phone first, then travel to a private, encrypted Google Drive vault — never into a feed.

Three small rooms from inside Dearvell, rebuilt for the browser. Change a hide, write on the paper, open the study shelf. Nothing you type here leaves this page.
A local simulation. No microphone access, no network calls, no journal data collected.
Four hides, one hand-finished volume. Pick a dye and letter the spine.
Rain against the window. The kettle has just gone quiet.
I want to remember how unhurried this feels — the lamp low, the page open, nowhere else to be.
Select a line and choose a highlighter, press a stamp, or dictate. This demo stays in your browser.
Walnut, worn brass, a pen jar, and one portrait that opens the room behind the room.

The Bindery
Dearvell is built as a physical object first. Every screen begins with the grain of leather, the temperature of lamplight, and the discipline of keeping digital machinery out of the moment.
Oxblood, forest, midnight, and aged walnut. Foil-stamped titles, a stitched edge, and a ribbon that remembers where you stopped. No two volumes need look alike.
Custom binderyWarm 2700K light, cream stock, a wet-ink sheen that dries as you write, and page turns with actual weight. The interface disappears; the page remains.
Tactile page engineNo streaks, no engagement prompts, no ads between paragraphs. Your first volume is free forever, and every entry you have written stays readable even if a pass lapses.
A quieter economy“Make the room quiet enough that the thought can arrive, sit down, and stay a while.” — Zero Soleil
The architecture
Privacy is not a settings toggle bolted onto a cloud app. It is the shape of the system: local-first storage, narrow OAuth scope, encrypted archives, and entitlements that keep working when the signal does not.
Your journal opens in airplane mode. Pages live in a local SQLite + Drift engine with SQLCipher encryption — no server round-trip, no cloud lock-in, no spinner between you and the page.
A hidden drive.appdata archive encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The DEK is wrapped by our server’s Master KEK and strictly bound to your authenticated backup_drive_email.
Fingerprint or face unlock on cold start, backed by the device’s hardware keystore. The journal key does not leave the phone just because the screen turned off.
Trial and entitlement leases are signed on the server and verified locally. No nagging internet checks mid-sentence, and existing entries are never locked from reading.
Journal prose, titles, photos, and voice memos never sit on Zero Soleil servers.
Read the OAuth scope and key-escrow details in the policy.
The private page
No ad networks. No third-party data sale. No journal prose, titles, photos, or voice memos used to train AI. The only analytics are anonymous session segments and crash traces, explained in plain language.
The Brass Ledger
